Fishing is an art after all. You have to be passionate and patient with this. Whether you’re a competitive sports angler or just wanna spend a fun time with your family on the lake, bass fishing is the best of a kind. But it’s mandatory to be well equipped. Nature is unpredictable but you have to understand the habits of bass and the environment.

Bass Fishing Tips For Beginners To Professionals

1. Collect and save shredded worms

While fishing your plastic worms might be torn up, collect and save them. A beat-up worm is perfect for bass fishing as the bass like to ambush wounded prey. But especially in shallow water.

2. Use red hooks and baits

Always use a crankbait with red hooks and a spinnerbait with a red or pink head. The fish thinks that the bait is injured as it is red and they will bite at it. Red color makes the fishes foolish but in shallow water.

3. Cast the lure without bait

Sometimes you might need to reach under docks or other structures. While casting, stop halfway instead of following through. Thus the lure will hit the surface of the water a few feet before your target and the lure will skitter over the water.

4. Always keep your hooks sharp

Before and after catching fish it’s mandatory to sharpen the hooks. I bet, it will not take more than 30 seconds. A good hook sharpener can help you out. Bass has boney jaws, so a sharp hook will be much more helpful to penetrate the fish.

5. Face the wind

Bass always swims with the current, to maintain some distance between your casts and fish. If you face the wind you may maintain the distance. Moreover, the noise of water slapping your boat’s hull will carry away from the spot you’re fishing and that is good.

6. Check your live-well water

After catching a bass, you have to put it in the live-well. Most of the time they spit up what they were feeding on. And thus you can tell which colored lure or kind of lure to throw the rest of the day.

7. Usually fish shallow in the spring

Spring is the reproduction season for bass. During spring they hang out in spawning beds. So, concentrate on shallow areas, especially in pockets and coves which are protected from the wind as they like to guard their eggs. They will bite the lures due to irritation and hunger.

8. Make seasonal bait

Like the humans, bass eats different bait depending on the time of year. In general, they like crawfish early in the year, so use peach-colored patterns. During summer and fall they like shad, so use chrome or silver baits.

9. Fish before the storm

Timing is also a matter while fishing bass. All you have to do before a storm, you’ll get nothing after a storm. Bass are air pressure sensitive, they become more active with air pressure. So wait for a wall of clouds moving in. If it’s too pretty out without cloud then the bass isn’t likely to bite.

10. Don’t lose hope

Bass is a combat lover fish. It might upset you by biting your hook several times. They like to combat the lure but in the end, they get tired. And finally, bite your lure.
